Bed sizes in India: single, double, queen and king

Indian mattresses come in lengths of 72, 75 and 78 inches. A single is 36 in wide (3 ft), a double 48 in (4 ft), a queen 60 in (5 ft) and a king 72 in (6 ft). The bed frame adds about 4 to 8 in to each size, more with a padded headboard.
Mattress sizes
Pick the length from the tallest person who sleeps on it: about 6 inches longer than their height. 75 inches suits most adults; 78 inches is for people over about 6 ft.

- 2 ft clear on each side used to get in and out
- 2 ft 6 in clear at the foot of the bed
- 3 ft clear in front of a hinged wardrobe so the doors open and you can stand
- Keep the bed out of the door's swing
Bed heights and side tables
The top of the mattress is usually 1 ft 6 in to 2 ft from the floor. Side tables are about 1 ft 6 in square and as high as the mattress top. A storage bed with a hydraulic lift needs the full mattress size clear above it to open.
