Standard door and window sizes in India

Doors in Indian homes are 7 ft high. The main door is 3 to 3.5 ft wide, bedroom doors 2.5 to 3 ft, kitchen doors 2.5 to 3 ft and bathroom doors 2 to 2.5 ft. Windows usually sit 2.5 to 3 ft above the floor with their tops at 7 ft; 4 × 4 ft and 5 × 4 ft are common bedroom sizes.
Door sizes
These are the openings in the wall. The door frame takes about 2 to 3 inches on each side, so a 3 ft opening holds a door leaf of about 2 ft 8 in.

Window sizes and heights
The National Building Code asks for window openings of at least about one tenth of the floor area in living rooms and bedrooms, more in hot and humid places. Local building bylaws may ask for more.

Window area in square feet
UPVC and aluminium windows are measured in millimetres and priced by the square foot. Square feet = width in mm × height in mm ÷ 92,903. A window 1500 mm wide and 1200 mm high is 1.8 sq.m, which is 19.4 sq.ft.
