Wardrobe dimensions
By the Inbecto team ยท Updated
A wardrobe is 2 ft deep (600 mm) and 7 ft high, with a loft above it up to the ceiling. Hinged shutters are 1.5 to 2 ft wide each, so a 2 door wardrobe is 3 to 4 ft wide and a 4 door one 6 to 8 ft. A sliding wardrobe needs about 2 ft 3 in of depth.

| 4 door | 6 to 8 ft |
| Sliding, 2 shutters | 5 to 8 ft |
Hinged or sliding
- Hinged shutters need about 2 ft of clear floor in front to open, plus room to stand: 3 ft in all
- Sliding shutters need no swing space, which suits small bedrooms, but only half the wardrobe is open at a time
- Sliding wardrobes cost more for the track and heavier shutters
How wardrobes are priced
In India wardrobes are usually priced by the square foot of front area: width times height. A 6 ft wide, 7 ft high wardrobe is 42 sq.ft; a 6 ft by 2.5 ft loft above it adds 15 sq.ft. Inbecto's studio works out this area from the plan.
